They were reenacting some sort of Greek mythology. POLYPHEMUS was playing the part of a cyclops. Belial was a merman. Shredded, with an eight-pack, he swam underneath the pool of water effortlessly. A pair of jet pack-like devices on his ankles helped him swim as effortlessly as a Buizel.

Holding his breath, though... that was all him. And, when it came time to shoot out of the water like a fucking rocket, he did it somewhat ungracefully as he heaved for air.

Raine was very happy she had chosen to sit far back of the first row. It was distant enough from the actual show to keep her nice and dry, while still giving her a full view of the unfairly attractive mermaid-- er, merman. [break][break]

Merstallion is more like it, she thought, watching with appreciation as he exploded from the water; the splashes over the side, coupled with the ooh and ahh of the crowd, mostly covered his gasping for breath. Raine joined in with a polite golf clap. [break][break]

She knew the story well. It was drawing to a close; soon, Odysseus would rise to the top of his mast and tell Polyphemus that it was he who blinded the terrible cyclops, and from that moment on, earn the ire of Poseidon. [break][break]

Unwilling as she was to get wet, she eagerly joined the queue to speak to the main actor after the show. [break][break]

Raine’s well-tended eyebrows lift skyward as Belial recounts a certainly harrowing tale of bravery and rescue; his lips grace the back of her hand and she tucks her chin, coquettish.

“My, my,” she says, color rising in her cheeks; she hopes she sounds sufficiently impressed, “a myth and a hero. How divine.”

There’s no question whether or not she believes it true. It doesn’t have to be.

“Raine,” she says-- there’s a gentle rolling of the ‘r’ as her Irish lilt slips back into her tone for the briefest of seconds-- “can I buy you a drink, Mr. Hero?”
